Paul headshotPaul Lewis co-founded Bruning & Lewis Law Firm, PLLC in 2012. Paul splits his time between serving as Moody County States Attorney and his active civil practice.

After graduating from Groton High School, Paul went on to the University of South Dakota where he earned his Bachelor of Science in Healthcare Administration with Honors.  Paul interned at the Towner County Medical Center in Cando, North Dakota, and was entrusted with administrative responsibility over the center’s 60-bed nursing home facility.

Paul then continued on at the University of South Dakota and earned his degrees of Master in Business Administration and his Juris Doctorate. During his time at the university, he worked closely with now-dean of the Law School Thomas Geu in drafting model laws for Co-operatives and a published article in Suffolk Law Review on the Revised Uniform Limited Partners Act.

After graduation, Paul went to work with Avera St. Luke’s in Aberdeen, South Dakota, where he oversaw the creation and growth of a specialty and primary care clinic division that covered northeast and north central South Dakota.  In 2007, Paul moved to Flandreau, South Dakota, in order to serve as the Hospital Administrator of the Avera Flandreau Medical Center.

After leaving Avera, Paul joined the Ellingson Law Office, where he actively engaged in civil practice, and worked as deputy states attorney.  During his time with the Ellingson Law Office, Paul served as legal counsel for the cities of Elkton, Flandreau, and Colman.  In August of 2010, Paul argued in front of the South Dakota Supreme Court in State of South Dakota v. City of Colman.

When Mr. Ellingson decided against running for re-election for States Attorney in 2012, Paul took up the mantle and ran un-opposed.  With the election, both parties agreed that it made sense to unwind their association.  Paul then joined Corey in forming Bruning & Lewis.

During his free time, Paul serves on various community and organizational boards in Flandreau, Brookings, and eastern South Dakota.  He also actively contributes to Flandreau’s community theater.
